Background
We are a Registered Training Organisation that has been operating for the past twenty years in South Australia. We have a small team of specialist trainers who deliver first class training to various sectors of the food and health care industries. Our Principal Officer has over thirty years management experience in the food processing and health care industries in a wide range of functions. This helps give us a high understanding of what each client needs and enables us to customise our services around the unique requirements of each client.
Vision
We desire to create a national network of training services to the food and health care industries, with the ability to conduct high quality customised training at each client’s workplace in either metropolitan or regional centres.
Our Trainers
David Healey
David combines 40 years of experience as a chemical engineer and senior executive within the food processing and health care industries. He has extensive experience in operational management both in small and large organisations ranging from line supervision through to managing director.
David gained his experience working for Haigh’s Confectionery, Nestle Australia, Alcan and Queensland Alumina. His career has offered him senior management positions in education, training and development, manufacturing, quality assurance, food safety, new product development, marketing and distribution.
David sees his role as supporting businesses transform themselves by providing great training and consulting solutions. AFTC’s key emphasis is on providing business solutions that focus on both employees and business needs. We aim to create opportunities and bring transformation, firstly to people and then to workplace culture, so that ultimately each business succeeds and prospers.
For the past 25 years David has worked as a workplace Trainer delivering qualifications in Leadership and Management, Food Processing, Health Support Services and as a technical consultant with such companies as: Arnott’s Biscuits, TipTop Bakeries, Sanitarium Heath Food Company, Adelaide Poultry, Bickfords Australia Ltd, CYWHS – Glenside Psychiatric Hospital, Southern Cross Care. CYWHS – Women’s & Children’s Hospital Adelaide, Anglicare SA, St Andrew’s Private Hospital.
David’s major area of expertise is in executive and operational management, HACCP based food safety programs and quality assurance systems. He is currently involved in the writing, development, implementation and auditing of HACCP based food safety programs for the Aged Care and Food Processing industries. This has included training personnel in the causes of food-borne illness, the identification of potential contamination sources and the development of internal auditing procedures.

Colleen Healey
Colleen had her beginnings in the cleaning industry as the owner / operator of her own cleaning business, cleaning in a wide range of premises – private homes, offices and food courts from 1993 – 2000.
Upon moving to Adelaide in 1995, she began work with Australian Food Training Centre (AFTC) in 2001 as the Administration Officer. This role involved overseeing all student records management, accounts payable and payment of wages.
Colleen broadened her role in the VET Sector in 2012 becoming a Learner Support Officer having completed a Certificate IV in TESOL. This role involved providing learner support services in a workshop setting primarily to ESL students (and other LLN students). The role included reading and writing skills, oral communication and pronunciation skills, tutoring support for specific vocational course content and terminology and basic literacy and numeracy skills.
In 2014 Colleen commenced her role as a Trainer / Assessor with AFTC having gained her qualifications in training and assessment. Her primary area of responsibility was in the delivery of the Certificate III in Health Support Services and Certificate III in Food Processing in the health care sector. Colleen’s areas of expertise include a wide range of cleaning related subjects, customer services, workplace communication and team building.
In 2015 Colleen became one of AFTC’s Foundation Skills specialists having completed both a Certificate IV in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment and the Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set.
Colleen has a strong desire to see all students overcome any learning barriers they may have and go on to achieve productive and rewarding careers.
