Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals who need skills to prepare for work or further foundation skills development.

It is a prevocational pathway to employment program designed to help develop the appropriate Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills to become job-ready for the food industry or develop reading and writing skills to undertake further studies.

Suitable for

This qualification is suitable for individuals who require:

  • A prevocational pathway to employment and/ or further vocational training
  • Reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills primarily aligned to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 2 

Qualification Outline

A total of 11 units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of: 

  • 1 compulsory Core unit and 10 Elective units

  • FSKLRG008 Use simple strategies for work-related learning

Elective units

As this program has been specifically designed to meet the entry needs and career paths of potential employees for the food processing industry, the following ten elective units have been chosen.

FSKNUM008 Use whole numbers and simple fractions decimals and percentages for work
FSKNUM009 Use familiar and simple metric measurements for work
FSKDIG002 Use digital technology for routine and simple workplace tasks
FSKOCM003 Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work
FSKOCM004 Use oral communication skills to participate in workplace meetings
FSKRDG007 Read and respond to simple workplace information
FSKWTG006 Write simple workplace information
FBPOPR1003 Communicate workplace information
FBPWHS1001 Identify safe work practices
FBPFSY1001 Follow work procedures to maintain food safety

Off-the-Job Workshops

Duration: The program is delivered over 14 weeks x 4 days / week, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, training every second week with one week on and one week off.

Note: This qualification is current from 14th November 2019

Venue: All training workshops are run at Regency TAFE, 137 Days Rd, Regency Park SA

Clothing and Equipment: There is no specific clothing or equipment needed for learners to provide for the workshops

Course Admission Requirements / Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for entry to this course, however applicants will be required to attend an information session and undertake a Basic Skills assessment to confirm they have suitable Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills to cope with the reading, writing, speaking and numeracy demands of the qualification. This assessment occurs prior to any offers of course enrolment being given.

This nationally accredited qualification is aimed at developing appropriate vocational skills for people new to the food industry or desiring to enter the food industry. The key clients for this qualification are typically unemployed job-seekers seeking a pathway to employment.

Qualification Outline

A total of nine units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Five (5) Core units and four (4) Elective units

Core units

The 5 compulsory Core units are:

FBPPPL1001 Communicate workplace information
FBPWHS1001 Identify safe work practices
FBPOPR1017 Follow work procedures to maintain quality
FBPFSY1002 Follow work procedures to maintain food safety
FBPOPR2074 Carry out manual handling tasks

Elective units

The elective units are selected to best align with work roles that maximise the opportunity for employment and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

For example: Students may have the following mix of elective units.

Operator

FSKNUM008 Use whole numbers and simple fractions, decimals and percentages for work
FSKNUM003 Use whole numbers and halves for work
FBPOPR2095 Clean and sanitise equipment
FBPOPR1015 Participate effectively in a workplace environment

 

Off-the-Job Workshops

The Certificate I in Food Processing requires the equivalent of up to 6 full days of off-the-job delivery.

Duration: A combination of both on-the-job and off-the-job training is required to complete the qualification. The program is delivered over a 6 – 9 month period, depending on business requirements.

Note: This qualification is current from 8th September 2021

Venue: All training workshops are run either on-site at your workplace or in a suitable off-site venue

Clothing and Equipment: Each learner must wear their usual uniform and footwear for the workshops

Course Admission Requirements / Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for entry to this course, however applicants will be required to attend an information session and undertake a Basic Skills assessment to confirm they have suitable Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills to cope with the reading, writing, speaking and numeracy demands of the qualification. This assessment occurs prior to any offers of course enrolment being given.

Overview

The Certificate III in Food Processing is an industry-based qualification targeted at significantly increasing the skills and knowledge of food processing industry employees. The key clients for this qualification are more experienced employees working in the food processing industry seeking to progress to higher levels of responsibility. The overall aim of this training is to progressively expose the students to more demanding and complex tasks and situations, thereby achieving specific business goals for the organisation.

Qualification Outline

A total of seventeen units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Five (5) Core units and twelve (12) Elective units

Core units

The 5 compulsory Core units are:

FBPFSY3003 Monitor the implementation of food safety and quality programs
FBPFSY3004 Participate in traceability activities
FBPOPR3019 Operate and monitor interrelated processes in a production or packaging system
FBPOPR3021 Apply good manufacturing practice requirements in food processing
FBPWHS3001 Contribute to work health and safety processes

Elective units

The elective units are selected to best align with the areas that each employee is working in and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

Off-the-Job Workshops

The Certificate III in Food Processing requires the equivalent of 8 full days (or 16 half-days) of off-the-job delivery.

Duration: A combination of both on-the-job and off-the-job training is required to complete the qualification. The program is delivered over a 12 – 18 month period, depending on business requirements. We recommend either half day (8:00am – 11:30pm) or full day sessions (8:00am – 4:00pm) to best fit into operational requirements.

Note: This qualification is current from 8th September 2021

Venue: All training workshops are run on-site at your workplace

Clothing and Equipment: Each learner must wear their usual uniform and footwear for the workshops

Overview

The Certificate II in Health Support Services is designed for unemployed job seekers who are seeking to gain employment in the health care industry as a Health Support Services worker.

With a strong focus on food safety, WHS, workplace communication, customer service, infection control and cleaning, this qualification is ideally suited to meeting industry demands for a competent and proactive workforce.

Qualification Outline

A total of twelve units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Four (4) Core units and eight (8) Elective units

Core units

The 4 compulsory Core units are:

CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

Elective units

Elective units are selected to best align with the areas that each employee is working in and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

Off-the-Job Workshops

Duration: A total of 600 hrs of learning and assessment comprising 65 hours of face-to-face workshops (10 days x 6.5 hours per day over an 10-week period) combined with a further 475 hrs of self-paced learning and assessment.

A further 60 hrs of compulsory structured work placement (typically 30 hrs/wk x 2 wks) occurs following the workshops that are arranged by the Australian Food Training Centre with our employer partners.

Note: This qualification is current from 24th November 2022

Venue: All training workshops are run at a suitable training venue, such as the Thebarton Community Centre, 56 South Rd, Torrensville SA, (Corner of Ashwin Pde and South Rd).

Clothing and Equipment: There is no specific clothing or equipment needed for learners to provide for the workshops.

Course Admission Requirements / Pre-requisites

Potential applicants are required to attend a course information session and participate in an individual interview. The suitability of participants is based upon the need to be available for shift work and weekend work. Aged care is a 7 day / 24 hr business

  • The ability to work in an environment with the elderly. A satisfactory NDIS clearance will be required from all students prior to the commencement of their compulsory work placement
  • Being fit and healthy 

 

Each potential student is also assessed to confirm they have suitable Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills to cope with the reading, writing and numeracy demands of the qualification. This assessment occurs prior to any offers of course enrolment being given.
