Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals who need skills to prepare for work or further foundation skills development.

It is a prevocational pathway to employment program designed to help develop the appropriate Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills to become job-ready for the food industry or develop reading and writing skills to undertake further studies.

Suitable for

This qualification is suitable for individuals who require:

  • A prevocational pathway to employment and/ or further vocational training
  • Reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills primarily aligned to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 2 

Qualification Outline

A total of 11 units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of: 

  • 1 compulsory Core unit and 10 Elective units

  • FSKLRG008 Use simple strategies for work-related learning

Elective units

As this program has been specifically designed to meet the entry needs and career paths of potential employees for the food processing industry, the following ten elective units have been chosen.

FSKNUM008 Use whole numbers and simple fractions decimals and percentages for work
FSKNUM009 Use familiar and simple metric measurements for work
FSKDIG002 Use digital technology for routine and simple workplace tasks
FSKOCM003 Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work
FSKOCM004 Use oral communication skills to participate in workplace meetings
FSKRDG007 Read and respond to simple workplace information
FSKWTG006 Write simple workplace information
FBPOPR1003 Communicate workplace information

Off-the-Job Workshops

Duration: The program is delivered over a 6 week period x 4 days / week, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm

Note: This qualification is current from 14th November 2019

Venue: All training workshops are run at Regency TAFE, 137 Days Rd, Regency Park SA

Clothing and Equipment: There is no specific clothing or equipment needed for learners to provide for the workshops

Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals who require further foundation skills development to prepare them for work or other vocational training pathways.

These individuals will primarily be existing employees within a workforce who require literacy and numeracy skills related to specific job functions. These skills form a foundation for career pathway planning and personal development and act as a bridge to more complex tasks and employment responsibilities.

Qualification Outline

A total of 14 units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • 1 compulsory Core unit and 13 Elective units

As this program has been specifically designed to meet the development needs of new employees to the food processing industry and their potential career paths, the following thirteen elective units have been selected:

FSKNUM015 Estimate, measure and calculate with routine metric measurements for work
FSKDIG003 Use digital technology for non-routine workplace tasks
FSKLRG009 Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems

FSKRDG009 Read and respond to routine standard operating procedures
FSKRDG010 Read and respond to routine workplace information

Off-the-Job Workshops

Duration: The program is delivered over a 15 week period via a series of 3 hr workshops

Note: This qualification is current from 14th November 2019

Venue: All training workshops are delivered on-site in a suitable training room with the provision to allow access to the workplace as needed.

Clothing and Equipment: There is no specific clothing or equipment needed for learners to provide for the workshops

MSMENV272  Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

Elective units

The elective units are selected to best align with work roles that maximise the opportunity for employment and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

For example: Students may have the following mix of elective units.

Packing Operator

FBPFSY1001   Follow work procedures to maintain food safety
FBPOPR1001   Pack or unpack product manually
FBPOPR1007   Participate effectively in a workplace environment
FBPOPR1010   Carry out manual handling tasks

Off-the-Job Workshops

The Certificate I in Food Processing requires the equivalent of up to 6 full days of off-the-job delivery.

Duration: A combination of both on-the-job and off-the-job training is required to complete the qualification. The program is delivered over a 6 – 9 month period, depending on business requirements.

Note: This qualification is current from 18th December 2018

Venue: All training workshops are run either on-site at your workplace or in a suitable off-site venue

Clothing and Equipment: Each learner must wear their usual uniform and footwear for the workshops

Overview

The Certificate II in Food Processing is an industry-based qualification targeted at developing the skills and knowledge of food processing industry employees. The overall aim of this training is to ensure employees are multi-skilled to operate the plant, equipment and processes in a particular area for the full variety of products produced.

Qualification Outline

A total of thirteen units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Four (4) Core units and nine (9) Elective units

Core units

The 4 compulsory Core units are:

FDFOP2064A Provide and apply workplace information
FDFOHS2001A Participate in OHS processes
FDFOP2063A Apply quality systems and procedures
MSMENV272 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

Elective units

The elective units are selected to best align with the areas that each employee is working in and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

Students will typically have either a manufacturing or packing career path depending on the needs of the business. Students are assigned to a particular area with different plant and equipment and are buddied-up with an experienced employee / workplace trainer. The buddy works alongside the student who progressively exposes them to varying and more complex training skills and tasks.

Off-the-Job Workshops

The Certificate II in Food Processing requires the equivalent of 11 x 4 hour workshops.

Duration: A combination of both on-the-job and off-the-job training is required to complete the qualification. The program is delivered over a 6 – 12 month period, depending on business requirements.

Note: This qualification is current from 23rd January 2018

Venue: All training workshops are run on-site at your workplace

Clothing and Equipment: Each learner must wear their usual uniform and footwear for the workshops

The Certificate III in Food Processing is an industry-based qualification targeted at significantly increasing the skills and knowledge of food processing industry employees. The key clients for this qualification are more experienced employees working in the food processing industry seeking to progress to higher levels of responsibility. The overall aim of this training is to progressively expose the students to more demanding and complex tasks and situations, thereby achieving specific business goals for the organisation.

Qualification Outline

A total of seventeen units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Five (5) Core units and twelve (12) Elective units

Core units

The 5 compulsory Core units are:

FDFOP2064A Provide and apply workplace information
FDFOHS3001A Contribute to OHS processes
FDFFS2001A Implement the food safety program and procedures
FDFFS3001A Monitor the implementation of quality and food safety programs
MSMENV272 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

Elective units

The elective units are selected to best align with the areas that each employee is working in and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

Off-the-Job Workshops

The Certificate III in Food Processing requires the equivalent of 8 full days (or 16 half-days) of off-the-job delivery.

Duration: A combination of both on-the-job and off-the-job training is required to complete the qualification. The program is delivered over a 12 – 18 month period, depending on business requirements. We recommend either half day (8:00am – 11:30pm) or full day sessions (8:00am – 4:00pm) to best fit into operational requirements.

Note: This qualification is current from 23rd January 2018

Venue: All training workshops are run on-site at your workplace

Clothing and Equipment: Each learner must wear their usual uniform and footwear for the workshops

Overview

The Certificate II in Health Support Services is designed for unemployed job seekers who are seeking to gain employment in the health care industry as a Health Support Services worker.

With a strong focus on food safety, WHS, workplace communication, customer service, infection control and cleaning, this qualification is ideally suited to meeting industry demands for a competent and proactive workforce.

Qualification Outline

A total of twelve units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Four (4) Core units and eight (8) Elective units

Core units

The 4 compulsory Core units are:

CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

Elective units

Elective units are selected to best align with the areas that each employee is working in and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request.

Off-the-Job Workshops

Duration: A total of 375 hrs of learning and assessment comprising 60 hours of face-to-face workshops (8 days x 7.5 hours per day over an 8-week period) combined with a further 254 hrs of self-paced learning and assessment.

A further 60 hrs of compulsory structured work placement (typically 30 hrs/wk x 2 wks) occurs following the workshops that are arranged by the Australian Food Training Centre with our employer partners.

Note: This qualification is current from 8th December 2015.

Venue: All training workshops are run at a suitable training venue, such as the Thebarton Community Centre, 56 South Rd, Torrensville SA, (Corner of Ashwin Pde and South Rd).

Clothing and Equipment: There is no specific clothing or equipment needed for learners to provide for the workshops.

Course Admission Requirements / Pre-requisites

Potential applicants are required to attend a course information session and participate in an individual interview. The suitability of participants is based upon the need to be available for shift work and weekend work. Aged care is a 7 day / 24 hr business

  • The ability to work in an environment with the elderly. A satisfactory National Police Certificate will be required from all students prior to the commencement of their compulsory work placement
  • Being fit and healthy

The Certificate III in Health Support Services is an industry-based qualification targeted at significantly increasing the skills and knowledge of health and aged care industry employees. It is designed for employees who provide support for the effective functioning of health services such as hospitality and hotel services employees. Typically these employees have significant previous experience in this industry sector yet no formal qualifications or recognition of their wealth of experience.

Qualification Outline

A total of fifteen units are required to achieve the qualification, consisting of:

  • Six (6) Core units and nine (9) Elective units

Core units

The 6 compulsory Core units are:

CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely

Elective units

A wide range of elective units are available and can be packaged to provide either:

1. A targeted qualification typically focused on either:

Pantry / Kitchen responsibilities
Cleaning duties
Laundry duties

 

2. A general qualification that covers a range of work functions

Elective units are selected to best align with the areas that each employee is working in and take into account potential career paths. A full listing of units is available upon request. 

Off-the-Job Workshops

Duration: A combination of both on-the-job and off-the-job training is required to complete the qualification. The program is delivered over a 12 – 18 month period.

The off-the-job workshops can be run as either 17 x 3.5 hour workshops or the equivalent of up to 9 full-day workshops.

Note: This qualification is current from 8th December 2015.

Venue: All training workshops are run on-site at your workplace

Clothing and Equipment: Each learner must wear their usual uniform and footwear for the workshops
